Vehicle hire specialist Sixt has partnered with mobility platform XXImo to trial an expanded service that includes public transport.

In a pilot project, called Sixt Mobility Club, a group of up to 400 drivers across Europe will exchange their company vehicles for a mobility budget that can be used to book a range of transport options for between three and six months.

Participants will use XXImo’s mobility payment card and Milo app to book and pay for different forms of transport, ranging from car rental, ride hailing and car sharing to trips on public transport, within a specified mobility budget.

The project will challenge current fleet structures and assess how users’ behaviours changes in a Mobility-as-a-Service environment, including the penetration of different modes of transport.

Sixt executives say that offering a mobility budget as an alternative to a company car is increasingly seen as an attractive incentive.

Vinzenz Pflanz, senior vice-president corporate sales at SIXT, said: “Mobility is an important keyword of our time; we know what potential the right mobility has for companies.

“Sixt Mobility-as-a-Service can significantly reduce fleet costs thanks to its needs-based concept. We will continue to develop and expand the model in cooperation with our customers.”

Sixt will advise fleet customers on budget implementation and the introduction of the app and payment card, while a specialist team will manage cards, reporting and invoicing.

Sixt is present in 110 countries worldwide and in 2018 generated revenues of nearly €3 billion.

Earlier this year, Sixt launched its own smartphone app offering vehicle rental, car sharing and taxi/transfer services on a single platform as part of its strategic expansion to become a global mobility services provider.

Sixt claims the app, called One, is the first integrated mobility platform in the world and can be used to book its services along with a range of affiliated partners, so customers have access to 240,000 vehicles, 1,500 mobility suppliers and more than one million drivers.

In a key development, Sixt’s own connected car fleet will become multi-use, so vehicles can be used either for rental or car sharing.
