Motor finance industry veteran Graham Wheeler has been appointed as chief executive officer of Advantage Finance, the motor finance business of specialist lender S&U.

Wheeler has dedicated his working life to the UK motor finance industry, having begun his career with GMAC. He was part of the original team at GE Capital Motor Finance in 1990 before joining Volkswagen Financial Services in 1995, where he rose through the ranks to become the chief executive officer of Volkswagen Financial Services UK, transforming it into Britain's largest car finance business with a combined asset base of £13 billion and more than 1 million customers.

Wheeler became Jaguar Land Rover's director for global financial services and then developed a digital car financing business for Shawbrook Bank. In 2018, he was inducted into the International Asset Finance Network Hall of Fame.

He will take over the role next month, replacing Guy Thompson, who is planning to retire in 2020.

Thompson was instrumental in founding the company in 1999 and has guided the business through more than 20 years of profit growth.

Wheeler said: “I am delighted and proud to be able to lead Advantage on the next stage of its remarkably successful journey. I pay tribute to Guy Thompson and the team he has built at Advantage and very much look forward to working with them in the years to come."
