AF50 UK company Porterbrook has appointed James McGowan as director of public affairs.

He brings more than 20 years’ experience in politics and communications, most recently as transport policy advisor to the shadow transport secretary Andy McDonald.

Prior to that, McGowan (pictured) was head of policy and communications at rail union ASLEF.

He will work alongside Rupert Brennan Brown, who takes up a new role as Porterbrook’s director of stakeholder engagement.

Mary Grant, chief executive officer of Porterbrook, said: “2020 is fast becoming a year of exciting change for the UK’s rail industry, and as a long-term strategic partner we are committed to playing our part and delivering for our customers. At this critical time, James will help us deepen our engagement with key decision makers across the political spectrum, on a national and regional level, ensuring that Porterbrook’s private finance and asset management model continues to serve the whole industry.”

Porterbrook is listed in the annual AF50 UK, the annual ranking of the country's largest asset finance companies.
