ARI Fleet argues that embracing consumer technology is next step for high tech fleet industry

In this presentation Keith Allen, managing director of ARI Fleet UK, examines how fleet leasing companies have used technology to deliver operational efficiencies through providing visibility. Now, he argues the challenge is to focus on the customers perspective, and to embrace consumer-style technologies and apply them to fleet.

UK fleet managers and lessors are ahead of the game internationally. Over the last 10 years government regulation and taxation changes have created a revolution in the way that British fleet companies and lessors have transacted business with their customers and drivers.

This has been aided by technology. So that when companies need to comply with health & safety laws, need to run their company car fleets with greater efficiency, and need to respond to increased driver demand for lower emission vehicles in the wake of changes in benefit-in kind taxation, then the technology has been developed to satisfy that demand.

Greater visibility is the watchword now for UK fleet companies and lessors – and this has fitted well with the regulation challenges banks have had to face post-recession. Equally welcome for banks has been the greater profit contribution from captive fleet leasing companies which have acted as a counterpoise to their shrinking balance sheets.

Keith Allen looks to the future and stresses that fleet lessors cannot rest on their laurels. Fleet technology providers must rise to the occasion once again. As he says: “Now we have to see how to adapt the technology explosion we are increasingly seeing in the consumer space into the corporate space.”
